Keep Your Pets Safe in the Cold

January 17, 2023

As winter falls upon us, it is important to not only keep your pet warm, but safe during these colder months. As a rule of thumb, if it is too cold for you to be outside, then it probably is too cold for your pet to be outside. Here are some tips to help keep your pet safe in the cold:
  1. Put on a coat: For smaller or short-haired pets, it can be beneficial to provide them with a coat, giving them an extra layer of warmth for their safety and comfort.
  2. Protect their paw pads: When exposed to the cold, your pet’s paw pads risk getting dry and cracked. VetsGrade Delta RX balm can be used to help moisturize your pet’s paw pads, alleviating any pain or discomfort caused by the dry skin. For an extra layer of protection, we recommend putting booties on them as well to prevent any foreign objects from getting stuck in between their toes.
  3. Only bathe them when necessary: To prevent your pet’s skin from drying up, it’s important to maintain the natural layer of essential oils on their skin. If you do have to give your pet a bath, we recommend using VetsGrade Derminol Shampoo. It’s a hemp infused clinical strength shampoo, scientifically formulated with essential oils and plant-based agents to soothe any irritated or inflamed areas of your pet’s skin.
  4. Moisturize areas of dry skin: Being exposed to the cold winter air can cause your pet’s skin or nose to become dry and flaky. Applying a balm can help soothe any irritation and prevent your pet’s skin from cracking.
  5. Steer clear from ice: If you live in an area where it snows, it is important to keep your pet off of any frozen bodies of water. Be sure to keep your pet on a leash whenever possible to keep them from straying into any unwanted areas.
